A l'heure où les USA imposent un cruel blocus à Cuba, nous étudierons la situation avec Helen Yaffe, professeure d'histoire économique et sociale à l'université de Glasgow, spécialiste de Cuba, de son système agricole et social qui permet à la population de tenir autant que faire se peut face à l'adversité.

contre la crise climatique connu sous le nom de Tarea Vida

Helen Yaffe is senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow and the author of “Che Guevara: the Economics of Revolution” (Palgrave Macmillan, 2009) and “We Are Cuba: How a Revolutionary People Have Survived in a Post-Soviet World” (Yale University Press, 2020).

Summary:
Cuba’s environmental history will be discussed, in particular the shift towards sustainable development and the long-term state plan to confront climate change, known as Tarea Vida (Life Task). The talk will discuss the specific historical and political economy characteristics which explain Cuba’s needs, and its capacity, for environmental sustainability and climate resilience.

Helen Yaffe is the author of the two following books.
Che Guevara: the Economics of Revolution (Palgrave Macmillan, 2009)
We Are Cuba: How a Revolutionary People Have Survived in a Post-Soviet World (Yale
University Press, 2020).

She is also co-author with Gavin Brown of the book “Youth Activism and Solidarity: The Non-Stop Picket Against Apartheid” and co-produced two documentaries Cuba and Covid-19: Public Health, Science and Society, DaniFilms, 2020, Cuba’s Life Task: Combatting Climate Change, DaniFilms, 2021, both freely available on youtube.
