À PROPOS DU DERNIER ALBUM :

Just Like This, Raw, is the second album I’ve made with Cédrick Eymenier. Our first was Such Is Life, in 2023, from which, in 2024, he made a film with the same title.

For Just Like This, Raw, Cédrick recorded the tracks in a small studio in Montpellier. I sang and played the guitar simultaneously, using a recently purchased Martin, electro-acoustic Dreadnought Junior, then overdubbed the electric guitar through a small amp, using my semi-hollow G&L Telecaster. We called the album “raw” because there are no effects, no click track, or micro-editing.

The mixing and mastering were made in Italy by guitarist, composer, and master sound engineer Giuseppe Ielasi, who founded the labels Fringes Recordings, Bowindo, Schoolmap, and Senufo Editions.

The 12 songs are a mix of older ones, such as “Gravedigger’s Song” and “Song for Bill,” and new ones, such as, “All There Is” and “Cartoon Hole.” “Gravedigger’s Song,” came from thinking about how airports, junkyards, and cemeteries are outside of towns, told through a cemetery worker. “Song for Bill” is about a very close high school friend who’d slept through his final exams in high school and punished himself by joining the Marine Corps. Back from bootcamp in September, the song is about our night together before headed off to war. “All There Is” began with simple arpeggios, while “Cartoon Hole” was inspired by Road Runner vs. Wile E Coyote animations, where the Road Runner pulls a hole out of his pocket to escape being chased, which is what people like me do when looking for an escape hatch to avoid stress. I can’t say what the other songs are about. Most songs simply write themselves and I write the words or a melody before I forget them, which happens. A friend of mine said I wrote songs about relationships that don’t work. “About You,” “Lover’s Alibi,” “Always Remember,” and maybe “All There Is” suggest otherwise, while “Find the Time,” “Complicated,” and maybe “Nice Guy Blues” continue the trend.
